Jackson County Community Theatre held its 2008 Annual Meeting at the Royal Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown on June 1. Cast members from JCCT productions of the past season entertained members of the audience. Dick Parman, Ron Duncan, Don Klaes, Curt Kovener, Angie Riechenbacker, Stacey Akemon, Suzanne Jones, Katie Gilbert, John Lewis, Anne Clodfelter, Joel McGill, and Carla Morning performed. Among the order of business at the meeting was the election of board members for the organization. Stephen Jones, Roger Dailey, and Darin Richart were reelected for new terms on the board. Jackie Awards for the 2007-2008 season were awarded at the meeting. Kayla Gill received the Best Actress Award for her role as Sally Middleton in “The Voice of the Turtle.” The show was directed by Joel McGill. Darin Richart was awarded Best Actor for his portrayal of Sherwood Holmes in “The Very Great Grandson of Sherlock Holmes.” This show, directed by John Hardaway, also swept two other categories, with Bill Day winning Best Supporting Actor for his part as Jason McTorg, the butler, and Angie Tracey winning Best Supporting Actress for her role as the sultry Helga. Don Klaes was named for the Outstanding Music Award for his part as the piano playing mechanic L.M. in “Pump Boys and Dinettes,” directed by Dick Parman and Mike Tormoehlen. Because of the nature of the production “The Good Doctor,” which was composed of very short plays, judges awarded these actors and actresses special awards for outstanding performances. These awards went to John Lewis, the narrator; Fred Lewis and Jerry Banks in “The Quiet War;” Katie Gilbert in “The Audition;” and Anne Clodfelter, Joel McGill, and Carla Morning (pianist) in “Too Late for Happiness.” President Dot Goodwin provided a preview of the productions scheduled for the coming season. Now in rehearsal, directed by Michael Callahan, is the comedy Ken Ludwig’s “Leading Ladies,” to be performed August 29, 30, Sept 5, and 6. Goodwin will direct “White as Snow, Red as Blood” to be performed November 7, 8, 9, 14, and 15, with a coordinating workshop to be held on September 13, 20, and 27. Plans for the dinner theatre at the Pines Evergreen Room February 14, 15, 20, and 21 are still under development. The final show of the 2008-2009 season will be the comedy, “The Girls of the Garden Club,” April 24, 25, May 1 and 2, directed by Betty Baute.
