Auditioners will be reading scenes from the script that will be passed out at auditions.

Characters

Hercule Poirot

Male | 40s – 60s
The world-famous, meticulous Belgian private detective. He relies on his “little grey cells,” values order and method, and possesses a sharp moral compass.

Monsieur Bouc

Male | 30s–60s
Poirot’s good friend and a director of the Wagon-Lits train line. He is bombastic, theatrical, and eager to see the case solved quickly so the train can resume its journey.

Michel the Conductor

Male | Any Age
A dependable French train conductor who has worked the rails for years. Quietly observant and deeply familiar with the train, he hides a profound personal connection to the tragedy at the heart of the mystery. (In some productions, doubled with the Head Waiter).

Samuel Ratchett

Male | 30s–60s
A ruthless, menacing American tycoon and businessman. He is unpleasant, secretive, and desperate for protection, unaware that his dark past has finally caught up with him. (doubled with Colonel Arbuthnot).

Helen Hubbard

Female | 40s–70s
An outspoken, flamboyant, and brassy American widow from the Midwest. She loves to talk about her daughter and injects boisterous humor into the tense train ride.

Princess Dragomiroff

Female | 60s–70s
An imposing, aristocratic Russian royal in her seventies. She is fiercely proud, wealthy, handsomely bejeweled, and accustomed to commanding everyone around her.

Countess Andrenyi

Female | 20s
Young, glamorous, and exquisitely elegant, though she suffers from a fragile, nervous disposition and relies heavily on her protective husband, Count Andrenyi.

Mary Debenham

Female | 20s–30s
An independent, calm, and level-headed English governess and secretary. She possesses a stiff upper lip and a cool demeanor that masks a hidden resolve.

Hector MacQueen

Male | 20s–40s
Ratchett’s nervous, high-strung personal secretary and translator. He appears constantly intimidated by his employer and anxious about the unfolding events.

Greta Ohlsson

Female | 20s–30s
A modest, gentle Swedish missionary and nurse. She has a frightened, sheep-like quality, speaks with a soft earnestness, and easily sheds tears over distress.

Colonel Arbuthnot

Male | 30s–60s
A stern, no-nonsense British army officer traveling from India. He is protective of Mary Debenham and carries himself with rigid military discipline. (doubled with Ratchett).

Head Waiter

Male | Any Age
A professional, polished, and slightly overconfident restaurant employee in Istanbul who sets the stage for the journey before boarding transitions. (Doubled with Michel).

Anyone wishing to work on the production in an offstage capacity (lights, sound, set building, painting, ushering, costuming, etc.) is welcome to attend auditions, or to contact JCCT at 812-358-JCCT or email: mail@jcct.org.

Unless the director specifies otherwise, no preparation is needed for auditions. However, those trying out should bring a list of dates which might conflict with rehearsals. Jackson County Community Theatre is found at the Royal Off-the-Square Theatre, 121 W. Walnut St., Brownstown.
