Elwood P. Dowd is unfailingly kind, endlessly courteous—and rarely seen without his best friend, Harvey, a six-foot-tall invisible rabbit. When Elwood’s sister, Veta, decides that his unusual companion is jeopardizing the family’s social standing, she attempts to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium. But a mix-up at the hospital sends the wrong person into treatment and sets off a delightfully chaotic chain of mistaken identities, romantic complications, and unexpected revelations.
