On Golden Pond is the poignant and humorous love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, a spirited elderly couple returning for their 48th summer at their home on Golden Pond in Maine. Norman, a retired professor nearing 80, deals with heart palpitations and a fading memory, while Ethel, ten years younger, serves as his loving and vibrant counterweight. Their peaceful summer routine shifts with the arrival of their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé, who leave behind his teenage son for the summer. Though initial tensions arise, Norman and the boy form a deep connection over fishing and literature, breathing new life and purpose into Norman’s daily routine. Confronting the realities of aging, illness, and family dynamics, the couple is brought even closer together, finding comfort in their enduring bond and another summer together.
